Before & After Loft Conversions, Extensions & Refurbishments

Before the Works

Before the renovation, the living room had an outdated layout and lacked proper insulation and energy efficiency. A partition wall divided the space, making the room feel smaller and limiting natural light and flow within the area. The existing central heating system was old and inefficient, resulting in uneven heat distribution and higher heating costs during the winter months.

The flooring had no insulation beneath it, which contributed to heat loss and made the room feel cold, especially during colder seasons. Walls and ceilings showed signs of age, with worn plaster and dated wallpaper finishes. Lighting was limited to basic ceiling fixtures that did not provide adequate or modern illumination.

Overall, the space felt tired, less functional, and was not performing well in terms of comfort or energy efficiency.

During the Works

The renovation began with the removal of the internal partition wall, opening up the living room to create a larger and more functional space. Structural checks were carried out where required to ensure the safe removal of the wall.

A full central heating upgrade was completed, including the installation of new pipework and modern radiators to improve heating performance and efficiency throughout the room.

The existing flooring was lifted to allow for the installation of full floor insulation, significantly improving the thermal performance of the space and reducing heat loss through the floor.

All walls and ceilings were then fully re-plastered, creating a smooth and modern finish ready for decoration. Electrical works were carried out to install new recessed spotlights, improving both the brightness and overall atmosphere of the room.

A custom plasterboard TV feature wall was constructed, designed to house a television and integrate a modern electric fireplace, creating a focal point within the living room.

Additional works included fitting new internal doors and preparing all surfaces for final decoration.

After the Works

Following completion, the living room has been fully transformed into a modern, open, and comfortable living space. The removal of the partition wall has created a more spacious layout with improved flow and better use of natural light.

The newly installed central heating system, combined with full floor insulation, has significantly improved the room’s thermal efficiency. As a result, the space is not only more comfortable but also much cheaper to heat during the winter months, helping reduce overall energy costs.

Fresh plastered walls finished with new wallpaper provide a clean and contemporary aesthetic. The installation of recessed spotlights delivers modern lighting that enhances the ambience of the room.

The TV plasterboard feature wall with integrated electric fireplace now acts as the central design feature, giving the room a stylish and functional focal point. Together with the new internal doors and upgraded finishes, the living room now offers a modern appearance along with improved insulation, comfort, and energy efficiency.

Before the Works

Before renovation, the small kitchen had an outdated layout and ageing services that were no longer efficient or suitable for modern use. The plumbing and boiler system were old, and the central heating installation did not provide consistent warmth in the space. As a result, the kitchen could feel cold, particularly during winter months.

The flooring had little to no insulation, allowing heat to escape through the floor structure. Wall finishes were worn and dated, with areas of uneven plaster and older tiling that no longer matched modern standards. Electrical installations were limited and lacked sufficient outlets and adequate lighting for a functional kitchen workspace. Ventilation was also limited, with no modern mechanical extraction system in place.

During the Works

The renovation began with a full strip-out of the existing finishes and services to prepare the room for a complete upgrade.

A full plumbing upgrade was carried out, along with the installation of a new boiler and associated pipework to improve reliability and efficiency. At the same time, the central heating system was fully upgraded, ensuring better heat distribution throughout the home and improved overall performance.

The existing floor was lifted to allow for the installation of full floor insulation, significantly reducing heat loss through the floor. Following this, electric underfloor heating was installed to provide consistent and comfortable warmth within the kitchen.

Large format floor tiles were fitted above the new heating system, creating a durable and modern finish. Walls were fully re-plastered to provide a smooth surface for decoration, and new wall tiles were installed in key areas to create a practical and easy-to-maintain cooking environment.

Electrical works were completed to provide new wiring, additional sockets, and improved lighting, making the kitchen more functional and safer to use. A core-drilled opening was created through the external wall to install a new extractor fan, allowing proper ventilation and improved removal of cooking odours and moisture.

To help manage renovation costs, the customer’s existing kitchen appliances were carefully integrated into the new layout, ensuring they continued to function effectively within the updated space.

The works were completed with the installation of new internal doors and finishing details throughout the room.

After the Works

After completion, the small kitchen has been transformed into a modern, practical, and energy-efficient space. The upgraded plumbing system and new boiler, together with the full central heating upgrade, ensure reliable and efficient heating and hot water throughout the home.

The addition of floor insulation and electric underfloor heating has dramatically improved comfort, keeping the kitchen warm even during colder months. This upgrade not only improves the feel of the room but also helps make the space more energy efficient and cheaper to heat during the winter.

The large format floor tiles, new wall tiles, and fresh plastered walls create a clean and contemporary finish, while the new electrics and lighting improve functionality for everyday cooking and use. The newly installed extractor fan with external ventilation improves air circulation and helps manage moisture and cooking fumes.

By integrating the customer’s existing appliances, the renovation successfully balanced quality improvements with cost efficiency. The result is a kitchen that is not only visually improved but also better insulated, more efficient, and significantly more comfortable to use throughout the year.

Before the Works

This bedroom project was carried out for a returning customer who had previously used our services for renovation works in the property. The room originally required improvements to comfort, flooring, and storage. The existing floor had little to no insulation, which allowed heat to escape and made the room feel colder during the winter months. The finishes were dated, and there was limited built-in storage available.

As part of the initial works, the plan was to improve the room with new flooring, insulation, and storage. However, after these works were completed, the customer hired a local decorator to carry out the finishing decoration. Unfortunately, the decorating work was left incomplete and below standard, with poorly prepared walls and unfinished surfaces, leaving the room in an unsatisfactory condition.

After the Works

We returned to the property to complete and properly finish the bedroom. The room now benefits from full floor insulation with new laminate flooring, providing a warmer and more comfortable surface underfoot. New skirting boards and internal doors were installed to give the room a clean and updated finish, and a built-in wardrobe was fitted to provide practical storage while maintaining a neat and integrated appearance.

To resolve the unfinished decorating work, we patched and properly prepared the walls before completing the final decoration. The room was finished with vinyl wallpaper and fresh paintwork, creating a clean and modern look. In addition, the existing radiator was replaced with a new unit, improving both heating performance and the overall appearance of the room.

The completed bedroom is now a fully finished, comfortable, and well-insulated space, offering improved warmth during colder months as well as a much higher quality finish throughout.
